Health Information of Wuxi
Visitors are required to fill out a health declaration form at customs. Pneumonia and influenza are common and there are limited risks of Hepatitis A or B, Typhoid, Polio, Malaria, Tuberculosis, Tetanus and Rabies. In rural and very damp areas, use mosquito nets, sprays and wear clothing that covers your entire body. SARS can be transmitted through air, body fluids and physical contacts. When there is a disease outbreak, wash your hands often and avoid crowded places (which is easier said than done in China). It is also advisable to wear masks and change them every few hours.
Vaccination
There is no compulsory vaccination when entering China. However, it is advisable to be immunized against tetanus, typhoid, poliomyelitis, Hepatitis A and B. Some people also opt for the rabies and Japanese encephelitis vaccination.
Hygiene
Toilets in China are not very hygienic and it is best to avoid public toilets unless it is a case of emergency. The only acceptable public toilets are in good hotels and restaurants, When buying food and vegetables, check the expiration date and wash the fruits and vegetables before eating them.
Tap water is not suitable for drinking. Drinkable water may be provided at a few of the best hotels. Do not drink it until you have asked and make sure it's good drinking water. Boiled water is sometimes offered in thermos bottles in hotel rooms. You need to make sure that it is fresh. Bottled mineral water is sold for about 3 Yuan and is widely available in stores, restaurants and street kiosks.
